Dark Bargain Games Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are these physical models that will be shipped to me?
A: No, these are ALL 3D printable digital download items delivered as STL files and a 3D printer is required to use them. Refunds on STL files aren't possible unfortunately as there's no physical item to return.
Q: What happens when I buy an STL file?
A: When you purchase the STL files you'll receive a download link to a zip file at checkout. You'll also receive an email to confirm your order along with a link to where you can download your files.
Q: What type of printer are the models designed for?
A: The product description for each model tells what kind of 3D printer they were designed for. Generally speaking, larger terrain pieces are designed with FDM printing in mind and smaller pieces are designed for resin printing; that's not to say that models designed for FDM printing can't be printed on a resin type machine and vice versa, but there are specific considerations as to what works best for each kind of printing and we try to take these into account when designing models. Some models are designed to work with either FDM or resin printing and this will be indicated in the product description.
Q: What resolution settings should I use when printing terrain on an FDM printer?
A: With FDM printing there is always a tradeoff between layer height and speed–a smaller layer height reduces the visibility of layer lines and shows more detail, but prints also take longer to finish. Most of the FDM printed examples shown here were printed at a 0.2mm layer height as we’ve found it gives great quality prints without taking forever to get to the table; that being said, if a print works at 0.2mm layer height it will still work at a smaller layer height, but it will take longer to print. Most of our terrain products have recommended print resolutions listed. Some slicers have incorporated options into their settings that allow you to have variable layer heights in a print, but this isn’t something we have had time to test out yet at Dark Bargain Games.
Q: What resolution settings should I use when printing terrain on a resin printer?
A: All of the resin printed examples shown here were printed at a 0.05mm (50 micron) layer height as we’ve found it gives great quality prints without taking forever to get to the table. In our experience, after applying a primer coat and paint to a model there is little to no noticeable change in detail when printing at a smaller layer height.
Q: I’m having an issue when printing a file, what should I do?
A: Take note of what is going wrong with the print and which specific parts are running into issues, then reach out to us either through the “Contact Us" section or by emailing us at info@darkbargaingames.com
Q: I can’t seem to find the file I’m looking for in the download for my purchase, what should I do?
A: At Dark Bargain Games we try to name and organize all of the STL files for our models in such a way that it’s easy to find and identify the specific parts you want to print, but we do recognize that some products have a lot of individual STL files and this can get confusing for large projects. If any STL files seem to be missing from any of your downloads, please reach out to us right away through the “Contact Us" section or by emailing us at info@darkbargaingames.com so that we can sort this problem for you as quickly as possible.
Q: Can I re-sell/share Dark Bargain Games digital files and/or prints?
A: No, please don't do that. All STL products we offer are intended for personal printing only. You're more than welcome to make as many prints for your personal use as you like, but it's definitely not cool to sell or re-distribute the files or to sell the prints. If someone sees your awesome prints on your table and wants them for their tabletop, point them in our direction! Dark Bargain Games is a small business and the unauthorized distribution of our files or prints thereof really does affect us.
Q: Do you offer commercial print licenses to sell printed models?
A: I'm currently working on getting set up to enroll licensed printers and will publish information on this once I have that all set up. If you are interested in a commercial print license, please contact me so that I can inform you as soon as I have this arranged.
